FARMINGTON — Police said a Freeman Township man is accused of having sexual contact with underage children and touching children inappropriately.

Franklin County Detective Ken Charles arrested Timothy Haley, 36, on Thursday on a felony charge of unlawful sexual contact and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful sexual touching, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said in a release Friday.

A conviction on the felony charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Cpl. Matthew Brann conducted an initial investigation on Tuesday of a possible sex crime at a residence in Industry. It was reported that Haley was acting inappropriately with underage children, he said.

The case was turned over to Charles in the Criminal Division who contacted the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Protective Services.

Charles conducted interviews with the victims.

Haley was interviewed on Thursday and arrested.

Haley was being held Friday afternoon on $5,000 cash bail or $500 cash bail and a Maine pretrial contract, a corrections officer said.
