I have had one of those “that’s-the-last-straw” moments. Recently, I read in a major newspaper that a group of Christian teachers wants to bring their religion into U.S. public schools.
That raises the question of which Christian religion they want to bring into the schools — the one Christ taught or the one that gets shoved in people’s faces. Ghandi said it well, “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ.”
Christ’s teachings in The New Testament include: ” Do unto others as you would do unto me,” “Love your neighbor,” “Love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,” “Let he who is without sin throw the first stone,” etc.
Many of today’s alleged Christian leaders never acknowledge how Christian behavior has deviated from those words. Consider some of the presidential candidates; they want to “Build a wall,” “Send all 15 million back,” “Carpet bomb (ISIS territory).” They project fear, not love.
Have others noticed that the U.S.A. lives on fear? Keep them scared is like “Keep them pregnant.” And weren’t we all going to die from Ebola or have all our guns taken away?
Christians don’t get to choose what to believe. True Christians follow the word of Christ, as exemplified by our black brothers and sisters who, with great dignity, forgave Dylann Roof for killing their loved ones in Charleston, S.C., in 2015.
Which Christians then? Those who live their faith or those who talk about it?
