1926 – 2016
Lewiston — Wallace R. “Wally” Carville, 89, former longtime resident of Davis St. in Lewiston and more recently of Maison Marcotte, died late afternoon Monday, March 14, at d’Youville Pavilion with his family at his side.
He was born in Lewiston June 2, 1926, a son of Bernard and Lucienne (Gagne) Carville. Wally was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. On June 21, 1947, he married the former Yvonne Dallaire and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family. Wally was a military veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II until his honorable discharge. While in the service, he also received the Bronze Medal.
Wally worked for the city of Lewiston’s Water District as a meter reader for 30 years until retirement and was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, the American Legion and the VFW.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, especially on Sebago Lake and Lake Auburn and deer hunting in the fall. He spent many days in the woods hunting with his brother, Walter; his brother-in-law, George; or his good friend, Francis. Wally enjoyed going for Sunday drives and eating fried food and lobster. As a young boy, he also spent summers on Cobbossee Lake with his family. He took great pride in his home and family, but perhaps most of all, he was truly a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a very caring and compassionate man with a good heart who sacrificed for many years to care for his wife and other family members also over the years. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Yvonne Carville of Lewiston; his daughter, Doreen Carville Auger and her husband, Maurice, of Alfred; a son-in-law, Bill Hanily and wife, Shirley, of Edison, N.J.; five grandchildren, Michelle Hanily Innocenti and husband, Rudy, Billy Hanily and wife, Danielle, Michael Hanily and wife, Christine, Allyson Auger Birchmeier and husband, Charlie, and Arin Auger; 11 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; a sister, Irene Carville Martel of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Dallaire Gervais of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
