JAY — Selectpersons voted Monday to approve an addendum to the contract between the town and the union representing two Town Office workers.
Town officials have submitted a $5.27 million budget for 2016-17, which is $368,434 less than the current budget. Voters will consider it on April 26.
Of the many cuts that were made, the Town Office staff is being reduced. A 15-hour, part-time position in the Finance Department is being eliminated. Hours for two clerks at the Town Office were also proposed to be reduced to 35 hours each.
However the addendum approved Monday changes the contract to allow Deputy Tax Collector Lori Shink to stay at her 39¾ hours weekly. She will forgo her raise in the coming year.
Deputy Town Clerk Lori Simpson will have her 38¾ hours reduced to 30 hours, according to the agreement.
The changes to the agreement, which expires on June 30, 2017, will go into effect on July 1.
It amounts to the same savings, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.
With the reductions in staffing, the Town Office will be closed Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon, effective July 1. It will open at noon to the public.
Staff will still work during the morning hours Wednesdays.
NOTE: This story has been modified to reflect the correct amount of hours the deputy clerk will work. It was a reporting error.
