RUMFORD – More than a dozen musicians have signed on to perform at a benefit dance for Mexico resident Tim Smith on Friday, March 11.

The event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall in Rumford.

Lora Cotton said Smith was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in December and has been fighting the disease via radiation and chemo treatments, with his wife, Carol, at his side.

The dance is to raise money to “help out with some of the medical treatments,” Cotton said.

Danny Gautreau was responsible for organizing the musicians, she said. Scheduled to perform are Kenny and Jeannine Murray, Kevin Libby, Troy Provencher, Derek Blodgett, Freddy Madore, Justin Hamner, Bill Louvat, Bob Hodgkins, Rob Gaudet, Terry Moore, Dennis Moro, Steve Bailey Sr., John Perry, Devin Roberts, Tom LeClerc and Scott Milligan.

Local businesses are donating items such as gift certificates and free oil changes, and people are making gift baskets, Cotton said.
