EAST MILLINOCKET — Maine state police say investigators have made an arrest in the killing of a teenager that took place 36 years ago.
State police arrested Philip Scott Fournier of East Millinocket in connection with the 1980 killing of 16-year-old Joyce McLain. Fournier was being held on a murder charge at the Penobscot County Jail.
Fournier is on the state sex offender registry, and he was previously identified as a person of interest in the homicide when Judge John Woodcock sentenced him in 2009 to 6½ years in prison for possession of child pornography. It was not known if he had a lawyer.
The teenager disappeared while jogging in August 1980 and her partially clothed body was found two days later. Police say she was bludgeoned to death.
