1944 – 2016
BOWDOIN — Roland A. Morgan, 71, passed away quietly at home with family on Sunday, Feb. 28.
Roland was born July 8, 1944 in Lisbon Falls, third son of Wilfred (Biff) and Lydia Mae Morgan. He graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1963.
Roland married Gail Allen in August 1968 and enjoyed 47 years together on “Morgan” hill. They were blessed with two daughters.
In his early years he worked as a builder and finish carpenter on both private and commercial buildings. He was well known as Morgan the Plumber, owner of Morgan & Morgan Plumbing. He helped design and build many homes in the area, even ones of which were said, “No Plumber Built That.”
He was raised as a master Mason in Ancient York Lodge #155, Lisbon Falls, Oct. 27, 1980, serving as master in 1988. As master he helped implement a Masonic scholarship fund. For the 14th Masonic District he was district representative in 1993 and 1994 and district deputy grand master in 1995 and 1996. He was honored to serve as grand sword bearer for the Grand Lodge of Maine in 1992. In the Scottish Rite he joined the Lodge of Perfection in December 1981, Council Princes of Jerusalem in March 1982, and Chapter of Rose Croix in April 1982, all in the Valley of Androscoggin and the Maine Consistory, Valley of Portland, May 1982. He served as most wise master of the H.H. Dickey Chapter of Rose Croix in 2002 and 2003. He received the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding Masonic Service in June 2007. In 1982 he joined Kora Temple Shrine. Illustrious Roland A. Morgan was created a sovereign grand inspector general, 33rd Degree, honorary member of the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction on Aug. 31, 2010 in Philadelphia.
Roland joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Pioneer Chapter #11 in June 1985, where he served as worthy patron many times over the years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows, Lisbon.
He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, canoeing, the great outdoors in northern Maine, playing cribbage, and sharing his love of fishing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; daughters, Clarissa and husband, David, of Augusta, Joanne and husband, Michael, of Bowdoin; grandchildren, Madison, Katherine, Melissa, and Stephen; mother, Lydia Mae; brothers, George and
wife, Madonna, Granville and wife, Carlene, Maurice and wife, Darlene, Dennis and wife, Judy, Richard and wife, Susan; sister, Marjorie Maloy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
