FloTrack.com, one of the nation’s leading sources of track and field news, took to its Twitter feed on Saturday and likely echoed the sentiments of everyone watching Isaiah Harris at the Big Ten indoor track and field championships.

“WHO IS THIS KID! 1:46.24 for the FRESHMAN for the Win!!!!” the site Tweeted at its more than 82,000 followers.

Smoke and fire emojis prefaced a parting admonition: “Watch out NCAA (championships), Isaiah Harris is coming for ya.”

Harris, a Lewiston High School graduate and freshman at Penn State University, shattered personal, facility, school and conference records in the 800-meter run while winning the league championship by nearly a full second at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

After posting the best time of 1:48.93 in preliminaries, Harris blazed to 1:46.24 in the final. 

That was more than a second better than his previous best of 1:47.31, and it vaulted Harris the seventh-fastest time in the nation this winter to third in all of NCAA Division I.

Goaner Deng of Minnesota was secong in 1:47.13.

Penn State’s previous record of 1:46.98 was set by Casimir Loxsom in 2013.

Harris’ high school best in the event was 1:49.63. He was a two-time New England champion and three-time Class A state champion in the 800. He owns the Maine record in both the 800 and 200 meters and was a two-time state champ in the shorter event.

As a senior at Lewiston, Harris led the Blue Devils to an outdoor track state championship and finished third in the 800 at the New Balance Nationals while earning All-America honors.

The national championships are March 11 and 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
