BATH — Authenticity and self-truth are themes explored in the Chocolate Church Arts Center’s theater production of “Visiting Mr. Green” by Jeff Baron, running Friday through Sunday, Feb. 26-28.

What starts as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing for years.

Peter Havas portrays 86-year-old widower Mr. Green, who is almost hit by a car driven by young corporate executive Ross Gardiner, played by Jonas Werner. Found guilty of reckless driving, Ross is ordered to spend the next six months making weekly visits to Mr. Green.

Visiting Mr. Green, directed by Thom Watson, presents the perfect balance of weightlessness while making some profound observations. Havas and Werner showcase the exposition of their characters with almost every word spoken to create an aura of familiarity. Audiences will relate to these two men.

This production is staged in the Curtis Room to offer an intimate theatrical experience. Showtime is 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27; 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 door and available online at: www.chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling the box office 207-442-8455. The Chocolate Church Arts Center is located at 804 Washington St. in Bath.
