FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors will begin deliberations on the 2016-17 school budget with administrators during workshops on Tuesday, March 1, and Thursday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in The Forum at the Mount Blue Campus.
A light fare will be offered at 5 p.m. at the Chef’s Table to directors and staff who do not have time to go home for supper.
The movie “Paper Tigers” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. during the March 3 workshop, Superintendent Tom Ward said Tuesday during a board meeting. It really depicts the issues in public education, he said.
According to www.papertigersmovie.com, “Paper Tigers is an intimate look into the lives of selected students at Lincoln High School, an alternative school that specializes in educating traumatized youth. Set amidst the rural community of Walla Walla, Wash., the film intimately examines the inspiring promise of Trauma Informed Communities — a movement that is showing great promise in healing youth struggling with the dark legacy of Adverse Childhood Experiences.”
The board will review budgets starting Tuesday, March 8, on successive Tuesdays and Thursdays, Ward said. The meetings will begin at 6 p.m. and will take place in The Forum or the library at the Mount Blue Campus.
Budget review will run through May 10, with the exception of vacation week, April 18-22.
On the second and fourth Tuesdays, the board will hold regular business meetings followed by continued discussion of the budget, Ward said.
The dates for the district-wide budget vote meeting, and validation vote in June, have not been determined.
