1922 – 2016

NORWAY — James W. Dunn, 93, passed away Feb. 17, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in the Yagger neighborhood of Norway to Virgil and Ethel Upton Dunn, growing up on his father’s farm.

James served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.

After returning home to Maine, he married Evelyn Poland of Woodstock in 1950, and moved to Connecticut, where he worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Engine Company, which he enjoyed very much.

He later returned to Maine and became a heavy crane operator for highway bridge construction for several construction companies, including Hinman, Aceto, Fleming and E. D. Swett. He loved his work.

James became a father to twins in 1952, son James, and daughter Patrice. The family moved to Falmouth Foreside, where they lived for 16 years, and then moved to Campton, N.H., for 35 years, where he retired and ran a small mobile home park. Their final home was in Norway, his hometown.

He was always busy and loved working around his yard, doing projects in his home, and refinishing antiques. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling many times to Miami to visit his sister and brother-in-law; to Phoenix to visit her sister; and to Loma Linda, Calif., to visit their daughter. Several trips were made with their longtime friends, Bob and Alberta Thurlow Harlow.

James became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was a very active member of the Plymouth, N.H., church.

He is survived by his daughter, Patrice of Norway; his sister, Ada Minyon of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Joan Poland of West Paris; a brother-in-law, Richard Wing of Woodstock; and many nieces and nephews, of whom he thought highly.

James was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; and his son, Jimmy.
