Andrew Fleming, who shattered the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School career scoring record, led the Vikings to four consecutive playoff appearances and will attend the University of Maine on a basketball scholarship, has been named one of three finalists for Mr. Maine Basketball.

Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball, presented by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches in conjunction with the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Awards, go to the outstanding senior boy and girl in the sport each year.

Individual and team accomplishments are considered among the award criteria.

Fleming is joined by Nick Gilpin of Hampden Academy and Thomas Coyne of Falmouth High School.

Miss Basketball finalists are Nia Irving of Lawrence, Maddie Hasson of South Portland and Shannon Todd of York.

Winners will be announced Friday, March 11 at Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.

Fleming scored more than 1,400 points while directing Oxford Hills to a berth in the Class A North regional final in 2014 and a trip to the Class AA North semifinals this winter. Even though the Vikings lost 73-67 to Deering, Fleming was named tournament MVP after scoring 70 points in two games.

Gilpin was the starting point guard on three consecutive regional championship teams and two state title-winning teams at Hampden. The Broncos lost to Oceanside in this year’s semifinals.

Coyne’s Falmouth team will face Oceanside for the Class A state title on Saturday. He recently exceeded the 1,000-point mark for his career.

Both Gilpin and Coyne will play basketball at Bates College beginning next season.

Irving and Todd will square off in Saturday’s Class A girls’ final. Hasson led South Portland to the championship game in Class AA South, where the Red Riots narrowly lost to undefeated Gorham.

Other local semifinalists, announced last week, were Riley Robinson of Dirigo for Mr. Basketball and Tianna Sugars of Oxford Hills and Emily Jacques of Edward Little for Miss Basketball.
