FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington is the next stop on what has been a long and rewarding career for Auburn’s Dan Campbell.

The school announced Tuesday that Campbell, a 1988 UMF graduate and veteran coach at Edward Little, will be the interim head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Dan’s caliber and level of enthusiasm to lead the program moving forward,” Davis said in a release.

“The opportunity to coach at my alma mater is not only exciting, but a dream come true,” Campbell said.

Campbell has coached three sports a year at Edward Little, beginning in 1984. He started the indoor track and field team and also coached the Eddies’ boys’ and girls’ cross country and Nordic skiing teams during his tenure.

At the helm of the Eddies, Campbell guided teams to 14 state championships and was named Maine, Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC), and Southern Maine Athletic Association (SMAA) Coach of the Year multiple times.

“My goal in working with student-athletes is to develop them holistically, so that they can best contribute as citizens, employees, friends and family members beyond their athletic experience,” Campbell said.

Beyond his career as a counselor and coach, Campbell is an ISSA certified personal trainer and Level 1 USA Track and Field Professional Coach.

UMF’s inaugural outdoor track and field season begins March 26 with a meet at Bridgewater State, and Campbell is ready for the season to get started.

“My outlook for the season is to make the transition for the athletes and department as smooth as possible, be competitive in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), recruit to build on the strong foundation of existing athletes, and to share my knowledge and experience in ways that help the participants be the best they can be.”
