1942 – 2016

CHESTERVILLE — Robert Leroy Brown, 73, of Chesterville passed away at his home on Sunday, Feb. 14.

He was born June 10, 1942, at the family farm in Farmington, to Margaret E. Perry and Carrol A. Brown. He was educated in East Wilton and Farmington, graduating from Farmington High School in 1961.

Robert worked at G.H. Bass, Franklin Shoe, and A-Pine Wood Shop, before starting in construction work. He worked in Colorado and Vermont in the 1980s, and worked for V.J. Schanck Builders, and Daniels, Davis Electric before starting his own carpentry business, retiring in 2006.

He enjoyed his family, antique autos, hunting, fishing, time at camp in East Carry and Avon, snowmobiling, ATV riding, trips to the Maine coast, and in his later years, building model airplanes.

Robert was a member of the the Narrow Gauge ATV Club. In the early 1960s, he raced stock cars at Oxford Plains Speedway and was a member of the Chesterville Fire Department. He owned many antique autos, restoring them himself. He took flying lessons, but never realized his dream of getting his private pilot’s license.
