There is no excuse for abuse of any kind — domestic, elderly or animal.

I am responding to the episode where a dog was left behind at the local animal shelter (stories Jan. 30-31), chased the drop-off vehicle and days later was found dead, struck by another vehicle.

The thought of that incident haunts me.
