U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, has welcomed Lewiston High School student Amanda Alberda to Washington, D.C., to serve as a Senate page for the spring semester.
She told the Sun Journal in November that as a child, she loved visiting Washington, D.C., more than Walt Disney World in Florida.
She was nominated to the program by Collins after a competitive selection process; only 30 students across the nation are chosen as pages. In addition to working as a page, she will attend school in Washington, D.C.
The high school junior is the daughter of Peter and Barbara Alberda.
“I am delighted to welcome Mandi to our nation’s capital,” Collins said in a news release released Tuesday. “Mandi is a highly motivated student with an impressive record of academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. I am pleased that she will have this unique opportunity to become intimately familiar with how Congress operates.”
Alberda will return to Lewiston High School for her senior year in the fall. After graduation, she hopes to attend Georgetown University.
