LEWISTON — Three Maine high school students attended the National 4-H Youth Summit on Agri-Science in Washington, D.C. 

 

The summit runs from Jan. 15-18 at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md., less than 10 miles from the White House.

 

Attendees were Ethan Gray of Lewiston, Kelton Tanguay of Gorham and Hope Carle of Princeton.

 

The three teens, along with trip leader Jenn Grant, represented the state of Maine in agricultural science. 

 

The summit’s official description states that “the Agri-science Summit will allow you to become a champion for agriculture in your community as you develop a fuller understanding of the critical role of agricultural science innovation in addressing the world’s most pressing problems. Workshops and hands-on activities will focus on issues related to food security, nutrition, energy and sustainability.”

 

Gray has been in 4-H for eight years, and said he loves the leadership side of it. 

 

The students were able to attend a selection of sessions with topics ranging from raising pigs effectively to dairy science to soil. 

 

A guided night tour of D.C. was also included, where the students were able to see various monuments and sights of the Capitol.
