Last week, President Obama announced executive actions to restrict the sale and ownership of firearms for certain categories of Americans. The Sun Journal displayed the headline “Emotional Obama acts alone on firearms, announces measures to restrict gun sales” (Jan. 6).
The American people have never elected a president to act alone and effectively write law without the consent of Congress. In fact, when the leader of any other nation single-handedly takes action to restrict or eliminate the rights of its citizens, we rightly label those leaders as dictators or thugs.
I have often seen the Sun Journal use the word “bully” to describe Gov. Paul LePage. Yet when the president of this country acts like a bully toward the constitutional rule of law, the Sun Journal lauds him for acting alone.
Makes me wonder.
