RANGELEY — Two local residents are accused of attempting to sell Vicodin, a prescription painkiller, but police intercepted the drug deal Monday afternoon at the scenic overlook on Route 4, Sgt. Jared Austin said.
Austin received information regarding a drug transaction that was going to happen at the overlook.
When Austin, Franklin County Deputy Brad Scovil and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents arrived, Allan Stebbins, 33, and Lysandria Lewis, 28, the focus of the investigation, were already there, Austin said.
“Both were taken into custody without incident and the prescription medication they were attempting to sell was seized,” he said.
The prescription medication belonged to Lewis.
Stebbins and Lewis were each arrested on a felony charge of unlawful trafficking of a schedule W drug.
Stebbins was also charged on a misdemeanor charge of operating after suspension. Lewis was also charged on a misdemeanor charge of permitting unlawful use for allowing Stebbins to driver her vehicle, Austin said.
A conviction on the felony charge carries up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
The couple was very cooperative with police.
They were taken to the Rangeley Police Department and then released on personal recognizance bail, he said.
They are scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Feb. 23.
