1927 – 2015

NORWAY — Artland K. Rogers of Norway passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 31, 2015, at the age of 88.

He was born in Greenwood on April 30, 1927, to Artland and Ruby Rogers. Artland was a meat cutter for many years, a master craftsman in the art of wood working, and a lifelong devoted member of the Masons.

On June 27, 1946, he married Alfreda Gilliam. They were married for 56 years and had one daughter, Elaine “Babe.” Together in 1975, they bought Roger’s Corner Store in Farmington Falls and ran a successful business until his retirement in 1987.

Art spent his time after retirement traveling with his wife, Alfreda, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, and taking time to go play music at the nursing home and for any who wanted to listen.

Artland was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was a collector of people, with a large heart and an open door, and he made every person who walked into his life feel important and loved. Art will be remembered as a strong, honorable man who cared deeply for his family and friends, and life will not be the same without him.

He is survived by his loving partner, Caroline Currier; devoted daughter, Elaine “Babe” Rogers Moore; dedicated grandchildren, Edward “Sonny” Kilgore, Kim Kilgore, and Shallen Moore Tripp; adoring great-grandchildren, Natasha Kilgore, Cora Barker, Zenovia, Xian and Yuric Tripp; a loving sister, Althea Hathaway; several nieces and nephews; and many adopted family members.

Art was predeceased by his wife, Alfreda; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
