AUBURN — City councilors will start early Saturday morning with a refresher course on their roles and the budgets before taking a tour of the city’s assets and challenges.

Councilors are scheduled to meet at 7 a.m. in Auburn Hall for an orientation session. They’ll discuss their responsibilities as councilors and get an update on what to expect during budget hearings. They are also scheduled to discuss city boards, commissions and committees and developing policy.

City Manager Howard Kroll said councilors are scheduled to begin their tour of the city at 8 a.m., starting with quick tour of Auburn Hall.

They’ll take a van to visit Lake Auburn, the mall area and the Public Services shops on Gracelawn Avenue, followed by a tour down Park Avenue, the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport, Danville Junction and New Auburn areas.

“(The) idea is to show them Auburn and what we have for assets and challenges, building/infrastructure for example,” Kroll wrote in an email. “It is going to be a window tour for the most part.”
