1924 – 2015
AUBURN — Doris May Powers, 91, resident of Schooner Estates in Auburn, a place very near and dear to her heart where she enjoyed her many new friends, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at Hospice House in Auburn, following a period of illness.
She was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Bethel, a daughter of Frank and Ethelyn (Dudley) Vashaw. She attended school in Bethel and later received her GED and went on to train to become a nurse’s aide.
Doris met and married Mervin Lee Powers in Upton on May 4, 1940. He predeceased her in 2008.
She was employed for many years as a nurse’s aide at the Rumford Hospital. She and her husband had spent many years in Harpswell and wintering in Mims, Fla., before becoming permanent residents of Florida in 1997, returning home to Maine in 2005.
Dot was known for her many artistic talents such as painting, quilting, weaving, leather working and cake decorating, to name a few. She had a great sense of humor and a loving generous spirit to all who came into her life.
Dot is survived by her four children, Harry Lee and his predeceased wife, Roxy Powers, David Frank and his wife, Karen Powers, Donna May and her predeceased husband, Vern Nunnally, and Richard Dean and his wife, Nancy Powers; 10 grandchildren (two predeceased), 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
