LEWISTON — Two local hospitals have each delivered the first babies of the new year.
Connor Jackman was born at 3:49 p.m. Jan. 1 to parents Alexa and Craig Jackman at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Connor weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces at birth and measured 20½ inches long. The birth was led by Dr. Elizabeth Linnell-Oken.
The parents were equally excited and exhausted, and happy to have their beautiful, healthy boy.
Central Maine Medical Center also welcomed a baby girl, Saoirse Darlene Assam, at 5 p.m. Jan. 1 to parents Jon Assam and Jen Gendron-Assam of Monmouth.
Saoirse weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces at birth and measured 20½ inches long. The baby was delivered via cesarean section by Dr. Thomas Page.
“We’re doing pretty good,” Jon Assam said. “Jen is just tired, which is to be expected, but better than she was yesterday.”
In the tradition of having a New Year’s baby, CMMC gifted the Assam family with flowers and a diaper bag full of gifts, including a blanket and hat. They also received a platinum 5-inch newborn photo as a gift from the maternity ward photographer.
