LIVERMORE FALLS — Addressing selectmen and residents at Tuesday’s meeting, Board of Selectpersons Chairwoman Louise Chabot said the board should try to alert residents at a meeting if a decision will be made after an executive session.
“We should specify at the next meeting what we did for transparency and clarity,” she said. “Any member of the board that gets a telephone call should refer it to the town manager so it doesn’t get misinterpreted.”
An executive session was held recently and afterward, selectmen accepted the resignation of Town Clerk/Treasurer Susan Sapiel.
“We can tell you there was no fraud involved,” Chabot said. “It was her decision to resign.”
She said selectmen made a decision to close the Town Office on Wednesdays because the staff was shorthanded in the wake of the resignation and needed that day to get caught up on work.
Amanda Allen has been appointed town clerk and Town Manager Kristal Flagg as acting treasurer.
Flagg said the town is in the middle of an audit, which normally takes place during this time of the year. Town officials have asked for an additional audit, which is normal procedure after a town treasurer steps down, she said.
“We haven’t made a decision about what we’re going to do about the treasurer’s position,” Chabot said. “We’ll address that later on down the road.”
In other business, the board reappointed Kenny Jacques to the Appeals Board.
