MONMOUTH — Mat Foulke put back a rebound at the buzzer Monday to lift Monmouth Academy to a thrilling 32-30 comeback victory over Madison in MVC boys’ basketball.

Hunter Richardson tied the game for the Mustangs (2-2) with a 3-pointer with six seconds left. Luke Thombs stole the ball and tried to score but missed. Foulke was there for the rebound and the win. The winning basket was Foulke’s only score of the game.

Richardson finished with 12 points for Monmouth while Thombs added 11. Madison (2-2) got 13 from Chase Malloy and eight from Mitch Jarvais.

Madison jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter and were still up 19-16 entering the fourth.

Winthrop 80, Lisbon 37

WINTHROP — Jacob Hickey was in a zone Monday night. The Winthrop guard found his stroke from beyond the arc, hit 10 3-pointers and led the Ramblers to a convincing 80-37 win over visiting Lisbon in an MVC basketball titt.

Hickey finished with 41 points with 10 3s and four 2-pointers to go with three made free throws. Anthony Owens chipped in with 16 points, eight boards and four steals for the Ramblers (5-0).

Jonah Sautter had a solid game for the Greyhounds (3-2), with five 3s of his own and a team-high 19 points. Tyrese Joseph added six in the loss.

Dirigo 87, Mt. Abram 47

SALEM — Riley Robinson piled up 27 points and Cooper Chiasson hit five 3s and added 25 as Dirigo ran away from Mt. Abram for an 87-47 MVC boys’ basketball win Monday.

Most of the Cougars’ damage came in the first half, during which the visitors accumulated a 35-point lead. Luke Lueders (12) and Clay Swett (10) also registered double figures for Dirigo (5-0).

Dan Luce had a solid day shooting for the Roadrunners (1-4) hitting for a game-high 28 points in the loss. Luke Romanoski added eight for for Mt. Abram, which picked up the pace and outscored Dirigo 21-12 in the final frame.

Boothbay 80, Telstar 56

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Jacob Leonard scored 13 points in the first quarter to pace Boothbay in an 80-56 win over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball Monday.

Abel Bryer led the Seahawks (3-2) with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Leonard finished with 20. Carter Babcock added 11. Telstar (1-4) was led by Blake Rothwell with 14. Jeremiah Richardson had 12 while Avry Griffin added 10.

Leonard’s strong first quarter allowed Boothbay to build a 26-13 lead. The Seahawks extended that to 45-25 by halftime.

Girls’ basketball

Spruce Mountain 56, Maranacook 32

READFIELD — Spruce Mountain won its first game of the season beating Maranacook 56-32 in KVAC B girls’ basketball Monday.

Alex Bessey led the Phoenix (1-3) with 17 points while Emily Hogan chipped in 14 and Haley Turcotte added 12.

Lauren Clough led Maranacook (0-4) with 10.

Boothbay 66, Telstar 21

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Boothbay broke open a small lead in the second quarter Monday to remain unbeaten with a 66-21 win over Telstar in MVC girls’ basketball.

Faith Blethen led the Seahawks (5-0) with 15 points while Page Brown and Hannah Morley each had 14. Telstar (0-5) was led by Hayley Peterson with seven points while Becca Howard had six.

Boothbay built a 13-6 lead in the first quarter but broke the game open with a 19-9 second quarter. The Seahawks finished the job in the second half, outscoring the Rebels, 34-5.
