The Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s weekly honor roll came out this past Tuesday, and two local college athletes were named to the five-member group.

University of Maine-Farmington senior forward Meghan Smith and Bates College sophomore guard Lyse Henshaw both had standout performances during the week ending Dec. 6.

Smith averaged 18.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists during a three-game stretch for the Beavers, who were 2-1 in those games. Smith had a pair of double-doubles, and has six total for the season. She was also named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.

As of Dec. 6, Smith was nationally ranked in free throw attempts, free throws made, double-doubles and total rebounds.

Henshaw made the honor roll on the back of a 26-point outburst in a victory over Pine Manor — Bates’ first win of the season — in the Williams Classic tournament. Henshaw also had eight rebounds in the game. She was named to the Williams Classic All-Tournament team.

Mileikis named Maine hoops top rookie

Saint Joseph College freshman point guard Ian Mileikis stood out among all college rookie players in the state, according to the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association. In its weekly awards release Dec. 8, the former Edward Little standout was named the MMBCWA’s Rookie of the Week.

The Auburn native averaged 11.0 points and 2.5 rebounds across two games for the Monks. That stretch included a season-high 18 points and 87.5-percent shooting in a loss to Anna Maria College.

Oak Hill grad outleaps others

Sabattus native Drew Gamage earned Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting a pair of podium finishes in the Huskies’ season-opening meet.

The Oak Hill graduate won the triple jump with a top leap of 44 feet, 1.5 inches and also took home third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10 inches at the USM Invitational.

Bobcats capture conference honors

Two Bates College athletes garnered New England Small College Athletic Conference honors for the week ending Dec. 6.

Lindsey Prelgovisk was named the Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week after a standout performance at the Maine State Meet. The senior won the 50-, 100- and 200-yard butterfly races, and was also a part of four winning relay teams. The Bobcats as a team won all 18 events in the inaugural state championship meet.

Bates senior squash captain Lauren Williams split the top honors in women’s squash with Tufts’ Lauren Banner, as they were both named NESCAC Co-Players of the Week. Williams won both her matches for the week ending Dec. 6, including securing the Bobcats’ only point in a loss to nationally ranked Trinity.
