DIXFIELD — Dirigo Elementary School staff have teamed up to raise money for fuel assistance in the River Valley area, Principal Charlie Swan said Friday morning.

Swan said staff split into three groups at the beginning of the month and filled up three sleds with items that they bought and donated to the school.

“Each group had a different sled, and together, they chose a theme to focus on,” Swan explained. “One of the teams had a ‘Frozen’ theme, another did an ‘Old-Fashioned’ theme arrangement, and the last one did a ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme.”

Each team is selling raffle tickets, Swan said, and three people will receive one sled each, along with all of the items that come with them.

All money raised from the fundraiser will go toward fuel assistance, Swan said.

“We’ve been doing holiday fundraisers like this for three years, and we’ve always tried to raise money to help people who need fuel in the area,” Swan said.

He added that another Dirigo Elementary group headed by Laura Johnston made and sold ornaments to raise money for local food pantries and animal shelters.

“We also had our kindergarten classes participating in a pajama drive last year,” Swan said. “We’re trying to keep the students involved with the community.”
