1934 – 2015
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Harold A. Harmon, 81, of Burnsville, N.C., formerly of Maine, passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, at Yancy Hospice in Asheville, N.C.
He was born in Hollis on June 14, 1934, the son of Walter A. Harmon and Mabel (Pinkham) Harmon. He was educated in Portland schools, then proudly served from 1954 to 1958 in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a truck driver with Coles Express Trucking in Maine.
On Jan. 6, 1982, he married the love of his life, Eva “Penny” (Benoit) McCausland. They settled in Livermore and together spent many memorable years at Clearview Orchards, their home and business. She passed away Aug. 24, 1997. After leaving Maine in 2003 for Florida, he found a home in the mountains of Burnsville, N.C., where he had been residing.
He will be missed by family, sons, Harold Harmon Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Lyman and Richard Harmon and wife, Sherry, of Livermore; brothers, Robert Harmon and wife, Carol, of Portland, Paul Harmon and wife, Peggy, of Portland, and Peter Harmon of Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his many friends; his companion, Helga Wyman of Burnsville, N.C.; and his little dog, Teddy.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Penny; his brother, Walter Harmon;, his son, John A. Harmon; and grandson, Scott A. Harmon.
