FARMINGTON — A collaborative group of University of Maine at Farmington students invites the public to view their findings on what’s needed to create a resilient community in the face of trauma.
This semester-long research project culminates in a poster session that will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in North Dining Halls A, B and C, in the UMF Olsen Student Center.
Traumatic events in the community can take many forms, affecting sectors from health to criminal justice. To understand how to best prepare for crises that can affect the community, students have been researching how communities can become better prepared and more resilient.
During the study, about 65 students participated in community events and conducted interviews and research with community partners and individuals to answer the overarching question, “What is needed to make the community more resilient and trauma informed?”
At this presentation, members of the public will learn about the process students engaged in to answer the question as well as what it was like to work across multiple disciplines. The public will also have the opportunity to explore with students what they learned about trauma and resiliency specific to Franklin County.
