SIDNEY — Two vehicles were involved in a fatal crash on Route 27 in Sidney on Sunday, resulting in the death of a Jay woman. Three others were injured in the crash, including an 8-year-old child.
The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Sherry Turner, 53, of Jay was found deceased in her vehicle by first responders at the scene, according to a news release from Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.
An 8-year-old passenger was pulled from the vehicle by passersby and sent to Maine Medical Center in Portland with LifeFlight for unknown head injuries, according to McCausland. The 8-year-old was conscious and alert and talking at the hospital, the release said.
Turner’s vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup, crossed the centerline and struck a 2014 Toyota Tundra belonging to Robert Rice, 55, of Windsor, Trooper Risk Moody said. Turner’s vehicle then rolled over and caught fire, Moody said.
Rice and his passenger, Raymond Rice, 52, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to the press release.
Maine State Police responded to the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.
