Mystery photo for December 6, 2015

There were several dozen callers misidentify last week’s mystery photo as The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston. However, Merton Lord of South Paris knew that it was the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church on Main Street in South Paris. When notified that he was the winner, he said, “I sit at the Market Square Cafe most Friday’s and look right out at it. I am pretty involved in all the churches and many family members have belonged there. It has a really nice pipe organ.” The congregation was established in 1815, and the current stone structure replaced the old wooden one that was torn down and rebuilt in 1911. The building is in dire need of a new roof and other repairs that the congregation deemed too costly to repair. They recently voted to leave the church building for a new location better suited to their worship and ministry needs. Lord is the winner of a $10 Subway gift card.
