In his letter (Dec. 2), John Reeder falsely claimed that I support some kind of Lewiston-only tax on the super-wealthy.
What I actually support is a statewide referendum on the ballot next year that would create a 3 percent surcharge on income in excess of $200,000 to fund education. It would bring more than $3 million dollars to Lewiston schools. It’s a common-sense statewide policy and I am disappointed that my opponent doesn’t also support it.
The only candidate in the race who plans to charge Lewiston residents more is Mayor Robert Macdonald, who voted twice in support of a new, $2-per-bag garbage disposal fee.
I oppose the regressive trash bag fee and my plan to renew Lewiston is fully paid for without raising property taxes.
I encourage Lewiston residents to vote in the runoff election Tuesday at Longley Elementary. Together, we can build a better future for Lewiston.
