LIVERMORE FALLS — A grease fire on a stove at a house at 21 Highland Ave. spread to the cabinets and the rest of the kitchen Thursday afternoon causing about $20,000 to $30,000 damage, fire Chief Tim “TD” Hardy said.
Owner Floyd Hewins was home at the time. His adult child and a couple of grandchildren also live at the residence.
No one was injured, Hardy said.
About 25 firefighters from Livermore Falls, Jay and Livermore responded to the fire reported at 3:27 p.m. Wilton firefighters stood by at a Jay Fire Station. A NorthStar Emergency Medical Services ambulance crew also responded to the scene.
There was fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage to the rest of the home, Hardy said.
Two state fire investigators responded to the scene and confirmed that it was a grease fire that caused the blaze.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the family, he said. The house was unhabitable on Thursday night. It was unknown where the family would stay, Hardy said.
