The success of post office authorities in tracing the delivery of letters whose addresses are obscure is attested in an instance in Auburn. A letter came to Auburn addressed to A. Egennings, No. 6 Hinken street. They delivered it to Albert Jennings, No. 6 Hunton Place, Auburn.

50 years ago, 1965
It is expected that water will start pouring Into the new million gallon reservoir on the Hardscrabble Road, Auburn, in about two weeks. At present the interior of the reservoir is being disinfected by a chlorine solution. The concrete work on the new reservoir has been completed and L. K. Parker, superintendent of the Auburn water and sewerage districts, said some post tensioning work has to be done but that this will be completed soon. This is the process by which the reinforced concrete is stiffened to take the stress and strain to which the walls and top of the reservoir will subjected.

Gulf Island Pond will be treated like a giant fish tank to bring it up to state water quality standards, an International Paper Co. executive explained Monday. “The general principal is the same as aerating a home aquarium, but this is much more efficient,” IP environmental officer James Grippe said. “Instead of bubbling in air, which is only 28 percent oxygen, we’ll be pumping in 100 percent liquid oxygen.” The goal of the project is to bring Gulf Island Pond, formed by a Central Maine Power Co. dam across the Androscoggin River, up to the minimum oxygen level required for a Class C river, the state’s lowest permitted classification. While all the rest of the river now meets this standard, the slow-moving water in the impoundment behind the dam falls short of it during the hottest, dryest weeks of summer.
