RANGELEY — The RFA Lakeside Theater will present the “Nutcracker Ballet” as a family holiday event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19.
The ballet is performed by the Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra and was filmed at the Imperial Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, where Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” ballet was first performed in 1892. The iconic characters of the story include the Sugarplum Fairy, the Mouse King, the Nutcracker, mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer, Clara, Chinese Dancers, Russian Dancers, Toy Soldiers and Snowflakes, among others.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite Nutcracker character. Admission costs $5, with a special family rate (parents or grandparents with children) of $15.
The film is co-sponsored by the Lakeside Dance Academy and the Rangeley Friends of the Arts. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.
