Mystery photo for November 29, 2015

There were more incorrect entries this past week than correct ones. A dozen incorrectly identified Mount Hope Cemetery in Lewiston, along with many others cemeteries around Central Maine. George O’Connell of Sabattus had no problem correctly identifying the correct one, Riverside Cemetery in Lewiston. In a random drawing, O’Connell is the winner of a $10 Subway gift card.

O’Connell likes to walk through the cemetery and photograph many of the old gravestones and memorials in Riverside Cemetery at the corner of Summer Street and Riverside streets. The 40-acre cemetery, established in 1820, is the final resting place for many of the city’s prominent citizens. There are headstones for many veterans of almost every conflict in which the United States has been involved, including the Civil War.
