JAY — Town officials are considering options to share fire services with Livermore Falls.

One option a committee with representatives from both towns is researching for long-term use is sharing Jay’s No. 2 Fire Station in Chisholm Village.

Jay Select Board Chairman Justin Merrill said during a meeting Monday that the Jay station has had two empty bays for a few years.

“I think it is best for both towns,” Merrill said. “Neither one of us can afford going out to build a new station.”

“I think it is a great idea,” board member Terry Bergeron said.

Livermore Falls has two firetrucks housed in one half of the station and Jay has firetrucks in the other half. Livermore Falls is not allowed to store trucks in its because of structural deficiencies. The town is paying the heat and half of the water costs to Jay for the space.

Livermore Falls is also looking at options and considering building a station. In addition to the two firetrucks stored in the Jay station, the town has two other firetrucks stored in different places.

The Jay station is close to both of the most residential areas in each town. Jay also has a second fire station in North Jay.

Livermore Falls is looking at how to best cover the section of town past PalletOne, known as Isaacson’s Lumber Co., on Route 133, board member Tim DeMillo said. The East Livermore section of the town is bordered by Fayette, Leeds and Wayne.

All options are being explored, including each town having different equipment that could be shared, Merrill said.
