ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with a few places in Farmington and did not locate that item. Although it’s a bit of a drive, Axis Natural Foods at 120 Center St. in Auburn has them in stock. You can call 207-782-3348 to find out if they are still in stock if you decide to visit the store.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On WCBB on the “Wights Workshop,” where does he buy all his handheld wood-making tools, planes (handheld), foot-powered lathe, etc.? Can you tell me where to purchase them?
Also, do you know where I may buy a cutter which makes crinkly potatoes? I had one, but lost it some time ago and now I would like to buy another one. Thank you. — Richard Nadeau of Lisbon Falls.
ANSWER: “The Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill” lists these sources for tools:
Tools for Working Wood, 32 33rd Street 5th floor, Brooklyn, NY 11232; 1-800-426-4613; www.toolsforworkingwood.com/.
Lie-Nielsen Toolworks Inc., Route 1, Warren, ME 04864; 1-800-327-2520; toolworks@lie-nielsen.com; www.lie-nielsen.com/.
Lake Erie Toolworks, 5121 Lexington St., Erie, PA 16509; 1-814-528-4337; www.lakeerietoolworks.com/.
Woodworker’s Supply, 1125 Jay Lane, Graham, NC 27253; 1-800-645-9292; woodworker.com/.
Highland Woodworking, 1045 N. Highland Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30306; 1-800-241-6748; www.highlandwoodworking.com/.
Walmart and Sears sell crinkle cutter tools. The kitchen tools section of your grocery store may sell that item, too. Paris Farmers Union sells vegetable slicers, although Sun Spots did not see a crinkle cutter.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope Sun Spots can clarify an occurrence I have been seeing every school day for the last two years. I have seen a certain school bus pull over in front of what used to be the Pettingill School, on the College Street side, hang around for certain vehicles to pull up and drop off children who get on that bus. I always thought that buses were supposed to go and pick up students not wait to pick up certain ones. This process is repeated every day. Love your column. — A concerned tax payer.
ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke to the transportation officer for Lewiston Public Schools. There is no mystery here. The office received a request from a taxpaying parent who wanted to be able to get his/her child on the bus on his/her way to work. These special arrangements are made to help parents get their kids to school and work on time and are efficient for the bus schedule as that bus has a 15-minute wait between routes.
