WALES — The Regional School Unit 4 board was asked Wednesday evening about lowering special education costs in next year’s budget for the sake of taxpayers.

David Blocher, secretary of the Litchfield Budget Committee, raised the issue.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said the state reimbursement for such costs are received two years after the money has been spent. He said he isn’t concerned with the slight fluctuations in compensation.

Blocher will make a formal presentation on the issue at the board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Oak Hill High School.

The board approved the high school graduation standards as presented by Principal Pat Doyle and department chairmen.

The board recognized new members Adam Dorman and Josh Bisson, both of Sabattus.

The Oak Hill High School girls’ field hockey team was praised for being Southern Class C champions. The team lost the state championship to Maine Central Institute.

The board discussed allowing more time between the public vote on the school budget and the referendum vote next year so the financial plan can be better explained to taxpayers.

Hodgkin recognized the resignation of Will Burrow, special education director.

Longtime, “beloved” bus driver Dennis Tilton resigned his position, effective immediately, to be closer to his home, Hodgkin said.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Room 133 at Oak Hill High School.
