WILTON — The Planning Board will consider approving a permit for construction of a storage building on Routes 2 and 4 at its meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Town Office.

A lot next to Dutch Treat has been cleared and owner Miguel Ibarguen of Bowley Brook Maple Inc. is asking for a permit for a storage building, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.

For now, the lot would only be used for storage because the town needs to vote on a zoning issue before any commercial operation could be established there, she said. The lot is in the Residential I zone with commercial lots surrounding it, she said.

Ibarguen, who grew up in Wilton and lives in South Paris, said he eventually wants to sell maple syrup equipment at the site. The building will be 40 by 96 feet, he said. A permit from Maine Department of Transportation for an entrance to the lot off the highway has already been secured, he said.

The entrance is close to the intersection with Route 156 where MDOT just completed lane reconstruction for traffic safety.

The Planning Board will also discuss the proposed zoning change for the lot from residential to commercial, Irish said. A public hearing needs to be held before the the town votes on the change.

The Planning Board and Board of Selectpersons could consider holding a special town meeting in conjunction with a vote in January to elect a selectperson, she said. Otherwise, the zone change will have to come before voters at the annual town meeting in June.

For a special town meeting vote to take place, at least 100 voters would have to participate, she said.
