BIDDEFORD (AP) — Officials say a Maine woman is facing charges after four snakes, including an albino Burmese python, were seized from her home and euthanized.
Karrie Herring of Scarborough pleaded not guilty Wednesday to importing or receiving wildlife without a permit after the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife took the animals from her apartment.
WCSH-TV reports that Herring bought the Burmese python— named Adidas —on Craigslist for $200.
Herring says she was trying to get a permit to keep the 11-feet-long, 80-pound snake but says state officials kept blocking the process.
A department investigation report says a state biologist and veterinarian identified all the snakes as illegal to possess.
Herring is due in court on Jan. 19.
