SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) — More Tim Hortons restaurants are closing in Maine, and employees say they were caught off guard.
The company told CBS 13 it decided to close locations in Maine and New York.
It’s still unclear exactly how many stores are closing, but at least two locations in Maine are shut down.
Employees at the Mill Creek location in South Portland and the store at the Maine Mall contacted CBS 13. Workers say they are devastated, especially right before the holidays.
“Well, it’s going to be rough. I’m going to have to look for another job at my age and hope that I can find someone that will hire me. It’s hard on those who have children. I feel sorry for them, last minute no warning,” Ruth Ridenour, former Tim Hortons employee, said.
Ridenour says she and other employees feel they should have been given some kind of notice. She says final checks will be mailed to employees.
Tim Hortons closed six Maine coffee shops in 2013. The Lisbon Street restaurant in Lewiston was one of them.
