1946 – 2015

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick — Marlene Bernice (Andrews) Heggie-Field of Green Hill, New Brunswick, wife of the late Peter Rennie Heggie and lastly, George Henry Field Sr., died Monday, Nov. 9, at a hospital in Fredericton.

She was born July 11, 1946, at Saint John, New Brunswick, the daughter of the late George Lawrence “Bud” Andrews and Ada Bernice Andrews of Long Reach, New Brunswick.

She was predeceased by her sister, Janet Elizabeth Andrews of Oak Point, New Brunswick.

Marlene graduated from St. John High School in 1963 and the home economics program of New Brunswick Teachers’ College in Fredericton in 1965. She was married to Peter Heggie on April 17, 1965. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and postings took them from Trenton, Ontario, to Oromocto, New Brunswick. They spent most of their married life in the Fredericton area, until Peter’s passing May 18, 2010.

In the early years, Marlene worked for the York Regional Library and later as an interviewer for Statistics Canada. Following their return to New Brunswick in 1976, she worked beside her husband, Peter, on their dairy farm. She was a teacher at Fredericton Christian Academy (DPCS) from 1989-1996. She loved teaching children and considered it her greatest calling, next to being a wife and mother of five.

She and Peter enjoyed traveling to visit their children and friends in the United States, Kenya and across Canada. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, music, genealogy and her grandchildren.

She married George H. Field Sr., an active dairy farmer of Poland on March 3, 2012, having first met him during a missionary conference at Devon Park Baptist Church. George faithfully and lovingly helped Marlene during her struggle with ovarian cancer while they enjoyed married life in Green Hill, New Brunswick, and Poland. Their short time together was filled with joy in each other and the Lord while traveling the miles between their two homes. A most memorable journey was their trip to Grand Manan, where they met many of George’s “Brown Family” relatives and were warmly received.

In addition to her husband, Marlene is survived by two daughters, Deanna Gaudaur (Michael) of Trenton, Ontario, and Jennifer Stinson (Jason) of Innisfail, Alberta; three sons, Peter Kirk Heggie (Dianne Moran) of Simpsonville, S.C., Andrew Heggie (Rhoda Younker) of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Ian Heggie (Kristi Setchell) of Calgary, Alberta; 13 grandchildren, Jacob and Breanna Gaudaur, Abigail, Naomi, Nathan and Jayvan Stinson, Tyler, Miley, Ali and Emily Heggie and Josiah, Kalina and Kian Heggie; stepgrandchildren, Lisa, Jenni and Steven; two great-stepgrandchildren, Cedar and Emerson; one brother, Vaughn Andrews (Anne) of Orleans, Ontario; a niece and nephew, Katherine and David Andrews of Orleans, Ontario; and several cousins. George gave Marlene eight very supportive and loving stepchildren, Donna Wight (Matt) of Wenatchee, Wash., Rhonda, Cindy and Laura Field of New Gloucester, Kathy Bailey (John) of Wilmington, Del., John Field (Sherry) of Minot, George Field Jr. of Auburn and Glen Field (Jessica Benoit) of Auburn; 12 stepgrandchildren, John, Eugene, Peter, Daniel, Diana, Sarah, Julie, Robert, Becky, Rachel, Jenny and Ben; and three great-stepgrandchildren, Atticus, Ariel and Henry.
