LIVERMORE FALLS — The Regional School Unit 73 board on Tuesday accepted an offer of $,1000 from Area Youth Sports to buy the former Livermore Falls High School.
The decision followed an executive session.
Board member Amy McDaniel was the only one to vote against the bid, which was the only one received. She declined to give a reason.
The high school has been empty for the past several years.
Efforts to contact Area Youth Sports President David Frey were unsuccessful Tuesday night.
The organization’s office is at the former superintendent’s office next to Jay Elementary School.
RSU 73 Superintendent Kenneth Healey said the next step will be meetings with the district’s attorneys and representatives from Area Youth Sports to finalize the paperwork for the sale.
“This is a great opportunity for the AYS and for the school district,” he said.
Some on the board expressed concerns that Area Youth Sports may not be able to afford to operate and maintain the building.
Healey said the district paid about $48,000 for such costs during 2014-15. The RSU 73 budget did not include money for the building in 2015-16.
The next board meeting is at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Central Office in Livermore Falls.
