The pacers, trotters, horse-men and bettors will get a night off tonight as the result of a combination of inclement weather and shortage of horses. The combination kayoed tonight’s nine-dash harness racing card at the Lewiston Raceway. Hugh Connor, publicity director for the track, reported that racing officials felt a better card could be presented later by postponing tonight’s program. The trotters and pacers are expected to make it to the post at the usual time tomorrow night.

Androscoggin County commissioners voiced support for continuing rural patrols at a meeting of the county Budget Committee Thursday night. The committee heard comments from citizens, town officials and legislators representing towns in the county which do not have their own police force. A consensus to maintain the status quo concerning rural patrols appeared on the committee as members responded to inquiries. “The patrols are not going to be changed,” said Commissioner Henry R. Bernier.
