Mystery photo for November 15, 2015

Although thousands of people drive past last week’s mystery photo on their way to Sunday River in Newry, only a handful of entrants correctly identified the wood sculptures in front of the former Sun Valley Sports on the Sunday River Road in Bethel. Lisa Freda, who ran the store for years before closing last year, still owns the property. Many years ago, Freda and her husband had contracted with Rumford artists John and Nancy Arsenault to display their work in front of the shop to help the Arsenaults sell their wood carvings and attract attention to the ski and sports shop from motorists driving past. Even though the store is closed, Freda agreed to keep the landmark sculptures in place. In a random drawing from the handful of correct entries, John Ames of West Paris was chosen as the winner of a $10 Subway gift card. He drives past them every day on his way to work at Sunday River.
