LITCHFIELD — Police and officials at Libby-Tozier School are reassuring parents that their children are safe following two recent nighttime break-ins.
“The individual that is breaking in is targeting money and not technology, personal information, or even medication,” according to a post on the school’s Facebook page. “No personal information has been taken or even been targeted. Please know that we are not talking about this with children to continue to ensure that they feel safe. We will keep families updated with information as we get it.”
The school serves pre-kindergarten to second-grade students.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the burglaries.
The first break-in occurred on the evening of Oct. 29. According the school’s Facebook page, the intruder “broke one of the back doors, into the kitchen area, and also into the main office.”
School staff ensured the safety of the students before the start of the school day but did not alert them of the break-in, according to the post.
“We did not want to alarm them,” it said.
A second break-in occurred Monday evening, Nov. 2, and school officials posted an additional statement to reassure parents that their children are safe.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department also issued a statement saying it will increase patrols in school zones and take appropriate actions to control the area.
“The school and its students are of the utmost importance to us and our communities,” the statement said. “We are going to ensure that students and faculty are safe to and from school grounds.”
