NEWRY — The Board of Selectmen is accepting applications for town administrator until noon Monday, Nov. 16.

Town Administrator Loretta Powers told selectmen Monday evening that she has received 11 applications.

“We have one person from Arizona, another from Utah,” Powers told the board. “We have people from a variety of locations.”

Powers, who has held the position for 11 years, is retiring Dec. 31 and moving to Florida.

The job description was posted on the town website, Powers said.

Among the duties performed by the town administrator are personnel administration, compensation plan and personnel policies and regulations; overseeing town money; and the preparation and development of town meeting warrants, town reports, annual budgets and audits.

The town administrator will hold the positions of town clerk, treasurer, tax collector, purchasing agent, registrar of voters and finance officer, according to the job description.

Selectman Jim Largess asked Powers if it would be possible to do Skype interviews with the out-of-state applicants.

“I wouldn’t see it being logical to fly them out here for an interview when we could do it over Skype,” Largess added.

“I don’t see why not,” Powers said. “You’re telling me you don’t want to fly out to Arizona for an interview?”

Largess laughed and said, “I wouldn’t mind taking a vacation to Arizona.”

The board agreed to review some of the applications before its meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Town Office.
