NORWAY — Police are looking for the driver who left a 1996 Lincoln Town Car crashed into the showroom of an unoccupied marina on Pennessewassee Lake.

Norway Police Chief Rob Federico said police received a call from a Central Maine Power worker who was driving past the building at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. When police arrived on the scene, they found a car had crashed into the building, likely at least a half hour to 45 minutes earlier, and caused extensive damage. The vehicle was unoccupied, and the driver was nowhere to be found.

Federico said police and several firefighters searched the area using thermal imaging devices, but found no evidence of any occupants of the vehicle. At this time, police are unaware of any injuries being reported, but without knowing who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, Federico said it’s impossible to know if someone may have sustained injuries from the incident.

“These are questions we’d like to have answered,” said Federico on Friday morning.

Police know the identity of the vehicle’s registered owner, but have yet to make contact with that person.

Federico said the vacant building is insured. The owner will provide an estimate of the damage by early next week and is having the property inspected for structural damage and safety.
