RUMFORD — The Western Maine Conference continued to flex its muscles Friday in the girls’ Class B preliminary round.

After a tight first half, Jaley Martin exploded for three of her four goals on the afternoon to lead No. 11 Gray-New Gloucester to a 6-1 win over No. 6 Mountain Valley at Hosmer Field.

Martin and Hannah Dixon netted goals in the first half, and Emma Woods added the Patriots’ other second-half tally to complete the scoring.

Sarah Giggey added a pair of assists in the win, while Keeley Arnold, Tiah Dyer, Emily Dawkins and Woods each added another. Gray-NG keeper Jen Sutherland needed to make five saves to preserve the victory.

Abby Mazza provided the lone goal for the homestanding Falcons (8-6-1) on an assist from Jordyn Turner. Karen Flaherty and Lauren Sterling combined to turn back 20 shots in the loss.

Traip Academy 3, Mt. Abram 0

SALEM — After a tight, scoreless opening half, Traip Academy came alive early in the second.

Emma Auclair and Kylie Chambers scored back-to-back goals less than six minutes apart in the first 10 minutes of the second frame to help lift the visiting Rangers to a 3-0 win over Mt. Abram in their Class C South girls’ soccer preliminary game.

Beti Stephens added the dagger for Traip (9-5-1) with 6:09 to play in the contest on an assist from Auclair. Lynne Moore turned back all three shots she faced for the shutout.

Abby Brackley stopped 12 of 15 shots in the loss for Mt. Abram (4-8-3).
